Freemasonry in Tenbury Wells

Royal Ark Mariners No 1260

The Teme Valley Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners was Consecrated 12th April 1996 and is a relatively new Order being practised in Tenbury.

To join this Order (to be Elevated) you must be a Mark Mason and you may have noticed that the Lodge number is the same as The Teme Valley Lodge of Mark Master Masons No 1260 to which it is “moored”.

The degree is about two hundred years old with the first authentic records of it being worked dated 1790. As the name suggests, the degree has a nautical flavour taking its ceremony from the biblical story of the great flood and the role of Noah and his family.

Although administered by the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons, the degrees have no historical connection at all and indeed the Royal Ark Mariners degree stands alone.

However, as the RAM degree had been worked by Mark Masons, in 1870 the Reverend Canon Portal, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons, announced that the Mark Degree would protect the Royal Ark Mariners Degree.

The RAM Degree was eventually purchased by the Mark Degree for a sum of £25!

Calendar of meetings

The Lodge meets three times each year, the third Wednesday of September, January and April at 6.00pm.
